Frequently asked questions
The things employers ask before their first Cleared4 session. If yours is not here, ask it when you book a demo.
Is this a self-test?
No. A NIVHA collector runs every session over live video and controls what the kiosk shows. Your colleague on site handles the kit under instruction and never reads or records a result.
Which tests does Cleared4 cover?
An oral fluid drug screen and a breath alcohol test, either together or on their own. Confirmation of a non-negative screen is carried out by an accredited laboratory under chain of custody, arranged by NIVHA.
How quickly can a test happen?
As soon as a NIVHA collector claims your request. There is no travel, so the usual wait for a collector to reach your site disappears. Ask us about the cover we can offer for your hours and sites.
Who is the Remote Collection Assistant?
A member of your own staff, briefed by NIVHA before their first session. They set up the room, open the sealed kit and hold the breath tester exactly as the collector directs. They do not need any testing background.
Is the session recorded?
Yes. Recording starts when the collector starts the session and runs to the end. The person being tested is told this before they consent and can decline. The recording is stored with the record.
What happens if the screen is non-negative?
The collector explains on the call that a non-negative screen is not a confirmed result. NIVHA arranges confirmation at an accredited laboratory under chain of custody, and your record shows the interim position until the laboratory result is in.
What does the person being tested see?
Each step on the kiosk as the collector reaches it, and a page on their own phone with the reference, what to expect and the medication question. Only they sign.
Can someone refuse?
Yes. A refusal is recorded as a refusal, with the person's signature and the collector's note, and reported to you as such. It is never presented as a test result.
What equipment do we need?
An iPad on a stand, kept on charge and connected to Wi-Fi or mobile data, and a private room with a table. NIVHA supplies the sealed kits, mouthpieces and a calibrated breath tester.
Do we need to install an app?
No. NIVHA pairs the iPad to your account and the kiosk runs as a web app. There is nothing to download from the App Store and nothing goes on personal phones.
Where does NIVHA operate?
Across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Because the collector is remote, distance from Belfast makes no difference to how quickly a session can start.
Can the person being tested follow it in their own language?
On request, yes. The on-screen steps, consent statements and the what-to-expect page can be shown in Polish, Romanian or Lithuanian alongside the English. English remains the official record and the collector runs the session in English; an interpreter can join the call where one is needed.
Do you help with policy?
Yes. NIVHA has helped many employers write and roll out a workplace drug and alcohol policy. Mention it when you book a demo.
How much does it cost?
Pricing depends on the number of sites and the volume and mix of tests. We will give you a clear quotation after the demo, once we understand how you would use it.

A demo takes about thirty minutes over video. We will show you the kiosk, the collector console and the record an employer receives, and answer your questions about policy and roll-out.
